Description
The objective of this study is to find the effects of the different topographies along the river on local climate, especially on the cooling effect of sea breezes. In the summer of 2002, field observations of climatic conditions were carried out on the shores of the Sakai River and the near by city areas in Kariya City and Higashiura Town, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. In the daytime of the fine weather, sea breezes from south blew into the observation area except on the river terrace surfaces with the right shore. The cooling effect of sea breezes were observed over the river and on the left shore. At that time, east wind blew on the river terrace surfaces with the right shore, and so the cooling effect of sea breezes was not appeared. The cooling effect of sea breezes became clearly on the following order: over the river, on the left shore of the plain and on the right shore with the river terrace surfaces.<br>
