Abstract

Recently, the number of heat disorders in residential places for the elderly have been increasing. Heat disorders are serious illnesses that can potentially be fatal, making their prevention urgent. We conducted a questionnaire survey to identify actual conditions for the degree of recognition of heat disorders in these houses. The subjects of the study were students from the School of Lifelong Education of Kyoto Prefecture. The results can be summarized as follows: The overall recognition of heat disorders is 89.7%, of which 65.7% is in residential places. The places where many heat disorders occur are bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens. Females experience 40% of these disorders in the kitchen. Kitchens’ thermal environment is a little dangerous. The rooms for rest are unsafe and uncomfortable. Fluid ingestion, which is one type of preventive measure for heat disorders, amounts to 92.6%, but salt supply corresponds to 25%. It is necessary to improve thermal environments and impart the appropriate knowledge to prevent heat disorders. This study may be useful in preventing heat disorders.<br>
