抄録

The natural killer (NK) activity of peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients with various chronic liver diseases and normal controls was examined using 4 hr 51Cr releasing cytotoxicity assay against K562. 16 of 25 patients with liver cirrhosis were treated with NK 421 (Bestatin, 30 mg/day, P.O.), and the effect of Bestatin on NK activity was also examined. NK activity was 28.5±2.1% (mean±SE) in 25 patients with LC, 29.7±4.4% in 8 patients with LC+HCC and 38.0±3, 2% in 10 control subjects. NK activity was significantly lower in LC and LC+HCC than in controls. NK activity was 29.7±3.290 in 16 patients with LC before Bestatin treatment, and was significantly increased to 43.8±5.1% after the treatment. These results indicate that NK activity is decreased in patients with LC and with LC+HCC, but can be significantly increased in patients with LC by Bestatin treatment.
