Description

Serum lipoprotein patterns in hepato-biliary diseases were examined by agarose gel electrophoresis. Lipoprotein patterns were classified in 9 types in view of the concentration of stained lipoprotein bands and their mobilities. In most of decompensated liver cirrhosis, pre-β band disappeared. (type A). In most of obstructive jaundice and acute cholestatic hepatitis with increased total bilirubin concentration, p band was only band present on electrophoresis (type L). The type A-L in which β band was narrow and cc-band disappeared was a sign of poor prognosis. The observation of lipoprotein pattern seems to be useful for the judgement of diagnosis and prognosis in hepato-biliary diseases.
