With the purpose to investigate of HB viral infection in Japanese living over 3 mothes in North Africa areas (Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Las Palmas), examinations of HBs-Ag and anti-HBs were performed on 54 subjects.<BR>The incidences of HBs-Ag and anti-HBs in the sera assayed by RIA were 1.85% and 14.81% respectively. These positivities of HBs-Ag and anti-HBs were almost similar in Japanese living in Japan. Two caseswith hepatitis in North Africa areas revealed negative for both HBs-Ag and anti-HBs.<BR>These data suggest that Japanese who live in such highly invaded areas by HB virus as North Africa do not have higher risk of HB viral infection than those living in Japan.
