Abstract

In order to examine the site of choleresis induced by bucolome, erythritol clearance was compared in guinea pigs before and after bucolome administration (20mg/100 g ip). The base-line bile flow rate in pentobarbital anesthetized guinea pigs was 24.00± 2.80μl/min/100g which was increased immediately after bucolome administration and reached the maximal flow rate of 41.66±5.03μl/min/100g 10min after bucolome administration.<BR>The canalicular bile flow rate as determined by erythritol clearance was 14.04± 1.41μl/min/100g before bucolome injection and increased to 27.63±4.24μl/min/100g by bucolome. The bucolome induced choleresis in guinea pigs was concluded to be of canaliular origin as was reported by the authors for rats and dogs.
