Abstract

The patient was a 44 year-old man who was given urokinase fbr 15 days because of cere thrombosis. After receiving 45, 000 units of urokinase, he developed pyrexia, skin erup generalized pruritus and jaundice. The liver function tests showed marked elevation of se bilirubin, total cholesterol, alkaline phosphatase and transaminases. Eosinophilia was recognized. Although transaminases became normalized, jaundice persisted more than six mo which was relieved by administration of Predonine. Microscopic findings of the biopsied liver centrilobular cholestasis with minimum parenchymal damage and little inflammatory changes o portal areas. Electron microscopy revealed diminution and fragmemation of microvilli of the canaliculi and bile ductules. Defbrmity of mitochondria and increased smooth endopla reticulum were also noted.
