Some cases of malignant skin tumors in which a marked effectiveness was obtained by treatment with HuIFN-β local injection are presented. The injectable solution was prepared by dissolving 3, 000, 000 IU of HuIFN-βin 2-3ml of procaine HC1; a solution mostly containing 300, 000-12, 000, 000 IU of HuIFN-β was locally injected into the lesion by dividing it into smaller quantities, on a basis of two to three times a week.<BR>A case of epithelioid sarcoma: The patient was a 38-year-old woman. Infiltration was noted on the whole surface ranging from the thenar eminence to the wrist joint, with formation of massive swelling in the margin; the lesion had been unresponsive to anti-cancer drugs. After the injection was repeated about thirty times, the lesion was biopsied. A dense infiltlation of lymphocytes was observed ; further, there were eosinophilic and amorphous areas where tumor cells seem to have fallen into necrosis, and no tumor cells were found at all. One to two months later, the areas involved were atrophied and depressed like a hollow. There has been no recurrence up to present, about one year later.<BR>A case of malignant lymphoma: The patient was a 65-yeat-old man. HuIFN-β was locally injected into multiple, small massive swellings that had been developed during and against previous administration of VEMP and Pepleomycin. After a single injection, the massive swellings of a tip of little finger in size disappeared. Some of the distally located swellings in which HuIFN-βA was not injected, also disappeared.<BR>Furthermore, HuIFN-β local injection proved to be effective in treatment of metastatic lesions of malignant melanoma.<BR>No appreciable side effects were noted in all the cases treated.<BR>Four cases of common wart were additionally included in those treated with HuIFN-β local injection. Of them, two were relatively fresh one. In both cases, a single injection (100, 000 IU) was given to the wart; about two weeks later, the lesion showed reduction in size with mild itching. One month after the injection, the lesion was healed, leaving no scarring or pigmentation.
