Description
Cream and ointment each containing 0.05% fluocinonide were applied topically to 9 patients (3 with psoriasis vulgaris, 1 with parapsoriasis, 2 with eczema universalis, 1 with eczema nummulare, 1 with pustulosis palmaris et plantaris and 1 with prurigo nodularis) in a daily dose of 5-20g in average. In some of the patients, occlusive dressing technique (ODT) was concomitantly used only during the night for a limited period. The follow-up period ranged from 60 to 268 days. Erythrocytes, leukocytes, peripheral circulating eosinophils, platelets, total proteins, GOT, GPT, alkaline-phosphatase, γ-GTP, BUN, Na, K, Cl, glucose level and plasma cortisol level were measured every two months throughout the period of treatment. Temporary increase of glucose level was observed in 3 patients, but the value returned to the normal range at the end of treatment. No marked variation of plasma cortisol level was seen in the patients treated without ODT, while some of the patients treated with ODT showed temporary decrease of plasma cortisol which returned to the pretreatment level at the end of the treatment. Thus, serious systemic effects were not observed in this study.
