Abstract

An 11-year-old man was transferred to our hospital with complaints of upper abdominal pain. He had tenderness in the upper abdomen, and muscular defense over the whole abdomen. Peritonitis due to perforation of the duodenum was diagnosed based on the free air around the duodenum and dilated loop of small bowel in the contrast-enhanced computed tomography. On laparotomy, perforation of the Meckel’s diverticulitis located in transverse mesocolon was recognized. Partial resection of the ileum (including the diverticulum) and end-to-end anastomosis of the small intestine were performed. Pathological findings revealed that an ectopic gastric mucosa was observed in the diverticulum. We describe our experience with a difficult case of perforation of Meckel’s diverticulitis.
