Description

The clinical efficacy of the SY skin care series (shampoo, body shampoo, gel and cream) containing a hot water extract of mugwort was evaluated in 34 cases of atopic dermatitis. After 3 weeks treatment, improvement was observed as follows; improvement in 6 cases (24.0%), moderate improvement in 10 cases (40.0%), unchanged in 8 cases, worsen in 6 cases. No side effect was observed in 27 cases, and thus the general safety ratio was approximately 80%.<BR>Concerning the safety of the SY skin care series as cosmetics, there were 7 cases (20.6%) observed unfavorable side effect. In addition, the number of cases showed adverse reaction were relatively high as well. However, no patients in this trial, who showed a moderate symptom of atopic dermatitis, were treated with steroid, and thus we may conclude that SY skin care series are capable of skin care products for the patient of atopic dermatitis as long as they are used as the daily cosmetics.
