説明

A 39 yea-old man, taxi driver, was first seen with a pea size nodule on his terminal phalange of left little finger. For a year, the patient had been suffering from the tumor gradually increasing in size. The surface of the lesion itself was smooth, and it was firm and tender to the touch. Except a ganglion on his right wrist joint, no other pigmented macules and tumors were found elsewhere on the skin surface, and the patient was in good general health.
The tumor was excised totally and the specimen was done laboratory routine stains for histopathological finding. It was well encapsulated and composed of numerous elongated nuclei arranging in palisaded fashion. Between the nuclear palisades, there was a space of nearly amorphous collagen. These double palisades are called Verocay body and are characteristic to neurilemmoma.
From the articles of microscopic and electron microscopic studies on nerve sheath tumor, and from the fact of rare multiple occurences, it is now apparent that this tumor is rather different from von Recklinghausen disease on its origin.
