Abstract

The stimulating effect on sebaceous secretion of The stimulating effect on sebaceous secretion of γ-oryzanol ointment (IKD-γ), which was topically applied on the volar aspect of 40 volunteers, was evaluated by the double blind half side method. The stimulating effect was observed in a 1 or 2% IKD-γ but not in a 0.1% IKD-γ. No significant difference was proved between 1 and 2% concentration of IKD-γ.<BR>Patch test of IKD-γ was performed in 65 volunteers and 37 out-patients of the dermatological clinic of Branch Hospital of the Nagoya University. Positive rates of the patch test and irritating index were low.<BR>With double blind test IKD-γ was found to be slightly more effective on xerosis and ichtyosis than its vehicle alone. Side effects of IKD-γ were rare. The drug was evaluated to be useful in the treatment of the diseases with dry skin.
