Description

We report a case of pediatric incarcerated femoral hernia after right external inguinal hernia repair. This case was a 10-year-old girl who complained of pain in the right inguinal region. On physical examination, a bulge was found in the right inguinal region, and it could not be reduced. She was diagnosed with a recurrent and incarcerated inguinal hernia, and she visited our hospital. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed protrusion of the hernia sac inferior to the inguinal ligament. The patient was diagnosed with an incarcerated femoral hernia, and underwent an emergency operation. Under general anesthesia, the bulge was reduced. The inguinal canal was opened, but the recurrence of external inguinal hernia was not found. The hernia sac was found inferior to the inguinal ligament. Nothing was palpable in the hernia sac. The femoral hernia was remedied by the usual femoral approach. The girl was discharged a day after surgery. No femoral hernia has recurred for a month. Femoral hernia in children is very rare and difficult to diagnose. CT is useful for diagnosing femoral hernia preoperatively.
