The neuromuscular blocking properties of pempidine and mecamylamine using the isolated rat phrenic-diaphragm preparation and sartorius preparation of toad were studied in comparison with that of d-tubocurarine and decamethonium. The following results were obtained :<BR>1) A small dose of pempidine and mecamylamine showed a stimulating action to the muscle directly, while relatively higher dose of these compounds showed a neuromuscular blocking action. The neuromuscular action was antagonized by eserine and potassium.<BR>2) Like pempidine and mecamylamine, pentolinium have been found to possess a neuromuscular blocking action. The characteristics of the blocking action were the same as that of C10.
