Abstract

Non-neurogenic double cancer associated with von Recklinghausen's disease (RD) is rare. We report a case of double cancer associated with RD in a 56-year-old woman. A routine X-ray examination showed an abnormal shadow at the right upper lobe. As she was diagnosed as having of lung cancer by a video assisted lung biopsy, a right upper lobectomy was performed. A follow-up CT scan conducted 1 year after the operation showed an abnormal shadow at the left kidney. A left nephrectomy was performed and renal cell carcinoma was diagnosed. Generally, patients with lung cancer and double cancer associated with RD fall ill comparatively younger, and the prognoses of them are unfavorable. Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF-1) gene which causes RD is considered to play an important role of the carcinogenesis.
