Abstract

Obturator hernia is common in aged and prolific women and the cases increase as people age. Since the disease often affects patients with poor risk, there are some lethal cases due to impaction of the intestine. Surgery is primarily chosen, but it becomes a comparatively invasive operation in many cases. We enforced a less invasive repair by using the Kugel method, and so we report this case with some bibliographical consideration.<br> A 75-year-old woman was seen at the department because of nausea. Based on abdominal X-ray examination and CT, the patient was diagnosed as having obturator hernia. Repair method which followed the Kugel method under lumbar anesthesia was enforced. There were no postoperative problems, and she was discharged from the hospital on the ninth hospital day. Though repair for obturator hernia tended to have been carried out under laparotomy with general anethesia, less invasive operations have increasingly been carried out through new approaches and devices of mesh. The repair by the Kugel method is less invasive and useful.
