Abstract

Here we report our laparoscopic surgical techniques for hydrocele of the canal of Nuck in seven adult patients treated in our department between April 2008 and December 2014. The median patient age was 46 years (range, 24-83 years). Four cases involved lesions on the right ; three cases involved lesions on the left. The median inguinal lesion bulge was 3 cm (range, 2-5 cm) and the median maximum peritoneal hydrocele on computed tomography and ultrasonography was 2.4 cm (range, 1-3 cm). The operation was performed with patients in the supine position under general anesthesia with three trocars inserted into the extraperitoneal cavity (as with inguinal hernia surgery). Delamination of the peritoneal hydrocele, as in the case of an inguinal hernia, was accomplished with relative ease. The mean operating time was 97 minutes (range, 85-119 minutes). In all cases, blood loss was minimal and no postoperative complications were observed. Equally important, no hydrocele or hernia recurrence was observed. Our findings show that total extraperitoneal laparoscopic hernia repair for hydrocele of the canal of Nuck is an effective procedure.
