Description

An 82-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with vomiting. He had lost his appetite and had severe weight loss for 4 months. An abdominal CT scan revealed an aortic aneurysm with a width of 42 mm, dilated horizontal part of the duodenum at the oral side. Fat loss around the horizontal part of the duodenum and expansion of the abdominal aneurysm caused narrowing of the aorto-mesenteric angle, which caused bowel obstruction.
After evaluation of the patient's general condition, we performed a duodeno-jejunal bypass. After surgery, he was able to increase his oral intake and therefore gained weight. He was discharged from the hospital two months after surgery.
I am going to describe this clinical course with a review of literature.
