Abstract
We performed tumor resection for adenocarcinoma of the right nasal cavity in a 42-year-old male patient in 2005. The pathological-histological finding was adenocarcinoma (pT1, cNo, cMo, and pStage I), for which we postoperatively performed preventive radiation at 50 Gy and achieved CR. In 2010, the patient experienced relapse with liver metastasis, and we performed left-lateral sectionectomy and partial resection of the liver (S2, S4). The patient subsequently experienced three additional hepatic recurrences, with treatments as follows : in 2012, right anteroventral segmentectomy and partial resection of the liver and partial hepatectomy (S4, S7) ; in 2013, partial hepatectomy (S1, S6, S7, S8) ; and in 2014, the remaining right anterior sectionectomy and partial hepatectomy (S6). After the first hepatic relapse, the patient survived for 4 years. The frequency of nasal cavity carcinoma is low among head and neck cancers, and adenocarcinoma of the nasal cavity is said to be a rare tissue type of cancer. Reports on the recurrence of a sole liver metastasis of nasal cavity adenocarcinoma are extremely rare, and no report on surgical resection for hepatic metastases is available. We hereby report one case of liver metastasis of adenocarcinoma of the nasal cavity for which hepatectomy proved to be effective.
