Abstract

A 73-year-old woman presented with complaints of epigastralgia and fever. Abdominal computed tomography revealed that a low-density mass of 3 cm in diameter with central calcification was located in the left paramedian sector of the liver. Portal vein branches to the right side of the umbilical plate were severe and strictured by tumor compression. A cline in the portal flow shrunk the liver parenchyma of segment 4. Magnetic resonance cholangio-pancreatography showed dilated biliary trees in the left lobe of the liver. Under a preoperative diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, she underwent an extended left hepatectomy, extrahepatic bile duct resection and lymph node dissection. Histological findings revealed no cancer cells, but the inflammatory tumor with calcification had originated from the umbilical plate. To our knowledge, no case of inflammatory tumor of an umbilical plate abscess has been reported ; though falciform ligament abscess may be a related disease. We report a very rare case of an inflammatory tumor of the umbilical plate that mimicked IHCC.
