Abstract
A central venous port-catheter (CVP) is commonly used in the treatment of patients with intestinal dysfunction complicated by severe motor and intellectual disabilities. We report four patients with severe motor and intellectual disabilities in whom CVPs could not be removed from the subclavian vein using standard methods. Two patients required intraperiosteal clavicle resection with venorrhaphy ; the CVPs could not be removed in the other two cases due to adherence to the vessel walls (the CVPs had been inserted for eight years and 13 years). The causes include pinch-off syndrome and CVP fixation to the vein.
