A 71-year-old femal ewas admitted to our hospital because of anal bleeding and analgegia. Barium enema of the colon revealed a large lesion like Borrmann type 1 and Borrmann type 2 cancers in the rectum and urtrasonography revealed metastatic tumor in the liver.<BR>Abdominoperineal excision of the rectum and left lateral segmental resection of the liver were performed. Examination of the resected specimen showed a Borrmann type 1 lesion together with a Borrmann type 2 lesion located close to each other. Histologically, the Borrmann type 1 lesion was a well differentiated adenocarcinoma limiali 2 ed in the mucosa and the submucosa, while the Borrmann type 2 was an undifferentiated carcinoma infiltrating into the serosa. Serial sections of the area where the two carcinomas contacted each other revealed no histological transition between them. And metastatic liver tumor and all swelling lymphnodes were undifferentiated carcinomas.
