Abstract

Cases of transanal rectal foreign bodies are mostly caused accidentally by escalation of eroticism. We report three cases of transanal rectal foreign bodies. Case 1 was a 59-year-old man who had inserted a big rubber stick into himself. The foreign body could not be removed using conventional forceps in a lithotomy position under lumbar anesthesia. So we manually compressed the foreign body gently from the abdominal wall and spread the anus, and we removed it grasping the big stick by the fingers. Case 2 was a 65-year-old man who had inserted a plastic bottle through his anus and into his rectum. The foreign body was removed by the same procedure as the case 1. Case 3 was a 43-year-old man who had transanally inserted a big cork ball by himself and had suffered abdominal pain. We removed it successfully by the transanal approach under lumbar anesthesia.<br> We conclude that manual extraction via the transanal approach under lumber anesthesia is a useful procedure for removing transanal rectal foreign bodies.<br>
