Abstract

A 34-year-old male was referred to us complaining of anal pain and bleeding. A detailed examination revealed a bulky tumor at the lower rectum with massive regional lymph node metastases. Two courses of XELOX therapy were administered as neoadjuvant chemotherapy. A subsequent examination revealed a significant decrease in size of the primary lesion and disappearance of swollen lymph nodes, and so we performed a laparoscopic super-low anterior resection of the rectum. The pathological examination revealed that there were no residual cancer cells, neither at the primary lesion nor the lymph nodes, and thus pathological CR was achieved. XELOX therapy was administered as adjuvant chemotherapy to the patient, who remains disease-free six months after the operation.
