Abstract

A 23-year-old woman presented to our hospital complaining of lower abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal CT revealed dilated small bowel loops in the pelvis, and conservative therapy for small bowel obstruction was initiated. The patient's symptoms worsened on the following day. Therefore, emergency laparoscopic surgery was performed, which showed multiple violin-string-like fibrous bands in the pelvis, one of which was found to be responsible for the small bowel obstruction ; division of this band resulted in relief of the obstruction. Violin-string-like fibrous bands were also observed on the surface of the liver. The serum titer of IgG antibody against Chlamydia trachomatis was found to be elevated on postoperative day 1.<BR>On the basis of the operative findings and elevated serum Chlamydia trachomatis IgG antibody titer, we made the diagnosis of small bowel obstruction caused by Chlamydia trachomatis infection.
