Strictureplasty was performed to surgically expand small bowel strictures in cases of Crohn's disease which had been controlled by conservative therapy, and the operative results were studied. Seven lesions in two patients were treated. The disease types included the small bowel type and the small and large bowel type. Resection of the small bowel was also performed in one patient. Since the strictures were all 4 cm or shorter, Heineke-Mikulicz strictureplasty was performed. No postoperative complications appeared, and the IOI-BD score was lower than the preoperative score. The patients showed a good postoperative recovery on an elemental diet (ED), and their course has been favorable so far. When there are multiple strictures, it is possible to preserve the intestine and remove the strictures effectively and safely by strictureplasty.<BR>These results suggested that strictureplasty is an effective operative method in the treatment of Crohn's disease with fibrous strictures in the small bowel.
