Loss of amino acid during hemodialysis was examined serially, and investigated to correct the loss with infusion of essential amino acid (FAA) with histidine. As to loss of amino acid, the amount of each amino acid related to their blood level directly, and not to the kind of amino acid. During 6 hours HD, about 6.3g of free amino acid was dia-lyzed. Serial determination of dialyzed amino acid every 1 hr. showed slight decrement of each amino acid with HD, but slight increment was seen at 6 th hour. To correct the loss of amino acid, FAA solution was infused during HD. When FAA solution was infused from arterial side during last 60 min. of dialysis, the level of FAA in the blood in-creased about 113% at the end of dialysis. However, 6070% of EAA was dialyzed during single pass through the dialyzer, and the efficiency of supplementation was not good. Same FAA solution was infused from venous side during last 60 min. of dialysis. After infus-ion of FAA, its blood level increased remarkably (311%). The ratio of dialyzed FAA was also less, i. e. 6.1%, and 93.9% of given FAA was taken inside. Among these, 9.3% was utilized for the elevation of their blood level, and about 70% was considered to be taken intocell. From these results, to correct impaired amino acid balance, FAA infusion from venous side during last 60 minm of dialysis seems to be excellent.
