Description

Oriental Medicine or Traditional Kampo Medicine is the medical care system, which was developed in old Chinese periods and was transported into Japan in the 6th century. In those days, there were few laboratory examinations like modern medicine. Also, the medical care principal was determined mainly with the dialogue between the doctor and the patient. Recently, the importance of Narrative Based Medicine (NBM) against extreme deviation of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) in the modern science is getting advocated. In some old Chinese medical literatures, we could find the evidences as NBM. For example, there were several descriptions of the trans-spiritual therapy in Su Wen (素問). Also, the famous Dr. Bunsi (文摯) in the Chinese war period healed the king of Sai (斎) by making him angry, reversely. In Japan, we also have good models of NBM, such as T. Wada of late Edo period and several modern expert Drs. like K. Otsuka et al. In this study, we could recognize that Oriental medicine/Kampo Medicine had been practiced as a psychosomatic medicine, through narrative approach (NBM).
