Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present our researches of neuropsychological analysis and support for communication disorders of dementia patients. 1) In cluster analysis of the communication disorders of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients, five clusters were identified ; general high, hearing difficulty, cognitive difficulty, speech difficulty, and general low. 2) After comprehensive cognitive group therapy was provided for the cognitive difficulty type, the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) score exceeded the scores obtained in several clinical trials assessing the efficacy of donepezil hydrochloride. The subordinate of MMSE, the orientation score was significantly improved. These positive changes were observed in their daily activity. 3) After personal training to moderate grade AD patient, using "memory book" which is one of the reminiscence therapy, was provided the wise narratives concerned with his whole life. These results indicated that it was important for the support of AD patients of communication to have the attitude involved both the scientific neuropsychological analysis and subjective sympathy for their emotion.
