To utilize the clinical pathway of the local chronic kidney disease (CKD) network and research data for future health programs, we examined our health checkup data collected between 2004 and 2009 on the number of cases, risk factors, and overlap cases of CKD, as well as body mass index (BMI) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels of patients. The results showed that the number of CKD cases increased in men in their 50s and men and women in their 60s. A chronological analysis of risk factors for CKD revealed that patients with hypertension, women with hyperlipidemia, and patients with hyperglycemia increased in number. In 2009, the percentage of persons having 3 or 4 risk factors was 46% in men and 31% in women. Moreover, among men aged 50 years and over and women aged 60 years and over, more than 90% had blood sugar levels higher than the upper normal limit. On the basis of these findings, we predict a further increase in the number of patients with CKD in our health checkup area where the population is graying at a city. These results suggest that the primary prevention of the risk factors is important and that efforts focusing on preventing diabetes are necessary.
