We presented three cases of refracture after removal of plates in the tibial shaft. In these cases plates had been removed 8, 12 and 14 months after insertion, and the refractures occurred 23, 66 and 106 days after plate removal, respectively. All of them had open and comminuted fracture, and required bone graft at initial operation.<br>These findings suggested that plate removal in the tibial shaft should be done more than 18 months after insertion and activity should be restricted 3 months after plate removal, especially in the case of open and comminuted fracture.
