Abstract

Male, pupa, larva and egg of Heizmannia (Heizmannia) kana Tanaka, Mizusawa and Saugstad, 1979 were described and illustrated for the first time. Descriptions and illustrations were made on the basis of the progeny reared from females collected by biting catches in Tokunoshima, Amami Island group. Heizmannia kana is a very distinctive species, readily recognizable by the midtarsomeres with tufts of sub-erect scales on 3rd to 5th segments (Ta-II3–5) and gonocoxite with about 7–10 conspicuous flattened striate setae, subapical lobe with strong terminal seta and proximal claspette lobe with 3 different groups of conspicuous hairs on the genitalia in males.
