Abstract

Occurrence of two rare mosquito species, Aedes bekkui and Verrallina nobukonis, was confirmed in southern Osaka Prefecture, Japan during the course of mosquito study in western Japan. A temporal ground pool appeared in rainy season from June to August 2010 was examined by dipping for occurrence of larvae. Biting mosquito collections were made by a sucking tube and/or a hand net beside the ground pool. Sweeping collection was also conducted around the pool. Eight and 4 mosquito species were collected in adult and larval collections, respectively. Both adults and larvae of Ae. bekkui were collected, whereas Ve. nobukonis was collected only in adult collections.
