Sixty-nine patients with a femoral neck fracture were followed up for 2.5±1.6 postoperative years to statistically examine the influential factors regarding their functional prognosis. The following results were obtained: 1) Complication, especially advanced dementia had a large influence on their postoperative ambulatory ability. In order of statistical probability, influential factors were pre-fractural ambulatory pattern and that at discharge (p<0.0005), pre-fractural amubulatory ability (p<0.005), age, hospitalizing period, and fracture at any institution or at home (p<0.01), pre-fractural daily activities and roles in the family, and fracture type (p<0.05). 2) Examination of these factors has enabled us to make a presumption of their functional prognosis as early as postoperatively. 3) Good functional prognosis necessitates them to recover up to practical ambulation at discharge.
