Description

In the first report, we described the efficacy of ramatroban (Baynas ®) in cedar pollinosis patients observed in a multi-center study conducted at 9 institution in Tokyo from January to April 2002. Based on the results, we attempted to identify the patients in which ramatroban is effective.
The results of the analysis showed that prophylactic treatment with ramatroban, effectively suppressed the major complaints associated with pollinosis, i.e., sneezing, rhinorrhea, and nasal obstruction, regardless of the type and severity of symptoms or the multiplicity of antigen sensitization of patients. Ramatroban effectively controlled sneezing and nasal obstruction, even when administered after the start of pollen dispersal. Accordingly, ramatroban is considered useful as a drug to develop appropriate strategies to meet the needs of individual patiens.
Furthermore, since ramatroban is an anti-allergic drug with little sedative adverse effects, such as drowsiness, it appears to be suitable for the treatment of cedar pollinosis in terms of compliance as well as improving patients' quality of life.
