Abstract

Growth and carcass data of six-month-old lambs were obtained from 8 Suffolk lambs (5 rams and 3 ewes). The lambs were creep fed from 2.5 wks of age till weaned at 15.5 wks of age. The weaned lambs were fed the feed consisting of two parts hay and one part concentrate ration, weighing 4.0% of body weights per day. They were slaughtered at 27.5 wks of age. Carcass traits were measured after 48-hr chilling. Average weight of lambs were 4.61kg at birth, 34.1kg at weaning and 44.8kg at slaughter. Dressing percentage was 43.4% on average, and was higher in ewe lambs than in ram lambs. The foresaddles of ram lambs were heavier than those of ewe lambs. We are planning on fattening lambs to a heavier weight by feeding them more concentrate and extending the fattening period.
