Description

Abundant distribution of "Alunus japonica" was suspected as a cause of pollen asthma in Niigata district and two typical cases were reported. 1. Pollen of "Alunus japonica" were observed between middle of March and middle of May and the highest number of pollen was observed between the end of April and beginning of May. 2. Positive rate of skin test using 1:1, 000 solution were 25.7% (27 cases out of 105) in Niigata district and 11.1% (4 cases out of 36) in Tokyo district respectively. 3. Dilution tests were carried out in 15 cases, and the threshold of the positive reactions were 10^<-5> in one case, 10^<-4> in one case and 10^<-3> in 13 cases. 4. PK tests were carried out in nine cases and eight cases showed positive reactions. 5. Provocation tests by antigen inhalation were positive in two out of nine cases. 6. From the above described results, two cases were considered as typical "Alunus japonica" pollen asthma. 7. In positive skin test cases to "Alunus japonica", skin test, dilution test and PK test using "Alunus hirsuta turez" pollen extract were carried out and similar results were obtained. Between these two kinds of pollens of different trees, common antigenicity was strongly suspected.
