Abstract

An infant with congenital laryngeal cyst is reported. He rapidly developed stridor, inspiratory dyspnea and swallowing difficulty during 24 hours sfter the normal birth. Under the general anesthesia, a large laryngeal cyst was found direct-laryngoscopically, covering up the whole epiglottis and extending to the right aryepiglottic fold. Removals of the cystic wall had been performed 3 times and complete cure was obtained with no recurrence. Histological examination of the resected specimens disclosed submucosal retention cyst which originated in the aberrant mucous-glandular tissue in the submucosa adjacent to the right aryepiglottic fold.
