Description

The effects of Inosiplex on viral growth, experimental viral infections and host defense mechaniams were compared with those of Levamisole, Lentinan, PS-K and OK-432. Levamisole slightly inhibited growth of influenza virus (INFV) but its activity was obviously less potent than that of Inosiplex. Lentinan, PS-K and OK-432 did not show any effects on viral growth. Inosiplex inhibited secondary INFV infection. No effect was shown by Levamisole, Lentinan, PS-K and OK-432. This observation appears to reflect Inosiplex's activity as both a viral growth inhibitor and a potentiator of host defense against viral infections. Inosiplex had the ability to restore lymphocyte function which had been depressed by INFV infection in vitro while Levamisole, PS-K and OK-432 had no effect. Lentinan less effectively increased lymphocyte function depressed due to INFV infection in vitro but had no effect on secondary INFV infection, or viral growth in vitro, suggesting that its mechanism of action is different from that of Inosiplex.
