抄録

Vertical distributions of chlorophyll-a, DIN, DON and dissolved free amino acids (DFAA) were studied in the coastal area of Hiroshima Bay. In bloom season, the concentrations of chlorophyll-a and dissolved total free amino acids (DTFAA) increased, while DIN concentration decreased. The good linear relationship between the concentrations of DON and DTFAA was found.
DFAA was divided into two groups, namely relatively high concentration (Ser, Ile, Leu and Lys) and low concentration (Asp, Glu, Phe, His, Val). The above-mentioned increase in DTFAA was due to that of amino acids with high concentrations. On the contrary, amino acids with low concentration rather than decreased. On the whole, it was suggested that amino acids with low concentration and high concentration were mainly concerned with uptake by phytoplankton and excretion from phytoplankton, respectively.
In order to certify such a phenomenon, incubation of Skeletonema costatum was performed under the alternate light-irradiation for 10 days. The results showed that the behavior of such water qualities qualitatively supported the assumption for algal growth which was obtained from the analysis of sea water. Furthermore, additive effect of each amino acid on the growth of Skeletonema costatum was studied as an example.
