The maximum rates of net assimilation of Cinnamomum camphora and Quercus glauca growing in field conditions were measured by LI-6200 (Li-Cor) for 1 year. There were a remarkable decrease of net assimilation rate during summer dry season by water stress. The effects of soil water stress on the assimilation rate were studies by seedlings growing in pots. The degree of stomata activity and transpiration rate of C. comphora were decreased by the increase of soil water stress. As a result, assimilation rate was gradualy decreased. On the other hand, soil water stress did not affect on the assimilation rate of Q. glauca untill the soil water pF value became the permanent wilting point. Levels of wilting point were remarkably differed between these two species.
