Abstract
The cooling of air by the moss Racomitrium ericoides planted on a vertical sheet was investigated in order to examine the capability of this greening method as a heat insulator. One sheet was planted with R. ericoides and the other with a mixture of planted R. ericoides and artificial turf covering. For comparison, temperature measurements were taken uncovered slab and sheet with slab. The heat insulation capability was accepted by relief of heat conduction, Since dry R. ericoides itself rise in temperature, it is a future subject to improve this problem. The sheet moderated air temperature rather than slab. In comparison to the uncovered slab, which becomes a heating surface at night nearly all summer long, the slabs covered with R. ericoides showed much longer periods of effective cooling.
