Abstract
Giant magnetoresistance was discovered in 250-nm-thick Fe3O4 polycrystaline films with added Pt. The characteristic GMR was about 8.7%. It was found that the GMR is dependent on the Pt content X (at.%) and the sample thickness. The electrical conduction mechanism ρ of the samples were as follows: small polaron hopping for X = 0 at.%, the barrier tunneling effect at the grain boundary for X = 1 at.%, and a combination of tunneling and the percolation process for X ≥ 2 at.%.
