Abstract

It seems that the regional policy for Japan has changed from an equilibrium viewpoint to regeneration during the past few decades. First of all, the author introduces some views of terms, which relate to regional policy and regional issues. And then, he expresses his view of these terms. In the next section, the author glances around some Laws, namely the comprehensive national land development revised law, the regional regeneration law, the special deregulation zone law and the special measures for urban renewal law related to regeneration, which have recently been enacted. Regional disparities about some indicators between prefectures will also be examined. After that, an evaluation of policy for regeneration will be given. The author maintains that welfare and medical services for the aged will be major issues in regional policy, especially in Metropolitan regions. In conclusion, the author mentions that geographers should express their vision for regeneration on the basis of the academic research and should also make it to public.
