抄録

The strength of a horizontal reservoir supported at both ends and filled with a liquid of density γ is discussed, utilizing the fundamental differential equation introduced by K. Mizoguchi. The same problem was discussed by I.A. Wojtaszak who used Timoshenko's method. i.e. solved three simultaneous partial differential equations assuming Fourier's series solutions. His results, therefore, are expressed in infinite series, which are very slowly convergent for thin shells, moreover the end conditions due to his method do not satisfy the actual conditions because of assuming Fourier's series solutions. All the results, in the present paper, can be obtained as closed forms, which practically satisfy the actual end conditions. Fairly different conclusions from those of Wojtaszak's solutions are obtained, for instance the axial stress resultant and couple do not vanish at both ends and the maximum stresses do not always occur at the middle position.
