In the previous paper, the stress concentration factor for a tension bar with U-notch was obtained by photoelastic method. Similar problem for bending is investigated by the same method. The result indicates that the curves showing the relation between the stress concentration factor and the depth of notch are similar in shape both in tension and in bending provided the shape of notches is identical. The experimental results herein obtained are in good agreement with every known theoretical result. This shows apparently the high accuracy of the experimental results and we can conclude that Neuber's solution based on an interpolation between two limiting theoretical values cannot be used without a perceptible error either in tension or in bending.
