抄録

As the precision of balance depends largely upon the knife edge, one must research the characteristics of the knife edge to improve the balance. Among the many researches after the knife edge only few treat its precision. One of the causes of the dispersions was assumed as the rolling friction, and another as the location of the fulcrum which were caused by the roughness of the flat bearing. We assume that the dispersions of equlibrium position of the balances are caused by the variance of the stress distributions at the contact surface which result from the roughness. The investigation was done. standard deviation σΔw was calculated, and we find that σΔw is proportional to the breadth b, calculated by Hertz's formula, and the following relation exists
