First, we make the mixture of molten waxes having the same specific weight γ, the same surface tension σ and the same viscosity μ with those of the fuel oil such as kerosine or heavy oil in a thermostatic box. A fuel injection pump and an injection nozzle required to measure the size of drops are set in the same thermostatic box, too. Next, the molten wax is injected from the injection nozzle into the other thermostatic box in which the temperature goes down as the drops of molten wax fall down and they solidify during the fall. Then, the solidified drops are all fed into a suction wind tunnel of very low air velocity of 40 cm/s or so through an vibrating hopper and they are assorted according to their sizes on the glass plates set on the floor of the tunnel. If we once measure the relation between the size of a drop and the position of the floor on which the drop falls, we can determine the weight distribution of injected drops by simply measuring the weight of drops accumulated on the glass plates. Thus we could measure the weight distribution of the injected drops from a throttle nozzle used in Diesel engines. Using a suction wind tunnel of 400 mm in diameter and 3 m in length, we could assort the drops of 300∼40μ by the size steps of 20∼5μ.
