Abstract
In precision grinding, the profile errors with various forms and magnitudes are brought about by complicated causes. The elastic deformation caused by the grinding forces shifts the relative position between the grinding wheel and the workpiece, and consequently the depth of cut cannot coincide with the advance of the wheelhead. Then, the workpiece will have erroneous profile, otherwise the productivity will be lowered by long spark-out time. In this paper, the generating mechanism of profile errors due to the elastic deformation was analytically investigated in order to obtain the basic data for the improvement of grinding accuracy. And it was theoretically proved that the elastic character of machine, the ability of grinding wheel, the grinding conditions and the accuracy of preceding roughing operations had important effects upon the profile errors. It is shown that the results of the experiments agree approximately with the analysis.
